Conversations that guide care
Understanding the holistic health care needs of Veterans takes time and meaningful conversation. How our nation’s Veterans feel about their service — and the types of support they may need — can vary greatly based on their era of service, conflicts they have experienced, branch of the military and personal background.
This conversation guide is designed to help health care professionals deepen their understanding of how Veteran patients perceive their service and to tailor care plans that address their unique needs.
Listening with respect
Approach Veterans with humility and a willingness to listen. Watch for body language, cues and family dynamics. While many are proud of their service, some may find it difficult or have experienced trauma.
These questions help you understand their service, feelings and needed support.
